Self-service cycle hire scheme to be launched in Derby
Derby City Council is currently looking for an operator to run a public self-service cycle hire scheme to be used by residents, students, workers and visitors in Derby.
The scheme is being developed by the council in partnership with the University of Derby and other key stakeholders, with the council securing capital funding from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the UoD and other partners contributing to operational costs.
It is anticipated that bikes will be available to hire from around 25 to 40 locations, with a soft launch of the scheme in September 2017 at the university and a full roll-out between September 2017 and April 2018.
It is hoped the cycle hire scheme will actively encourage new cyclists of all backgrounds and abilities, including disabled people, and will 'normalise' cycling as a viable form of transport for as many people as possible.
Details of the contract can be found at www.sourcederbyshire.co.uk The deadline for submissions is April 19, 2017.
