Matthew is a 22-year-old para-equestrian rider from Alvaston who is part of the British Showjumping Para Group and has taken part in national training. He hopes in the future to win the British Para Show Jumping Championships for his disability grade in the future.
Matthew says: "I've been focusing on building a partnership with my new horse Norman. This hasn't always been straightforward and my coaches and I are still assessing his potential for Para Competitions.
"As I haven't been able to get out to compete with him yet, I've had more time to focus on strength and conditioning work, and, as well as working with my physio, I have started training regularly at the Derby Arena gym. Access to this through the ICON scheme is a really big help.
"I'm still finding time for volunteering, and recently completed a training video for Derbyshire Sport about getting involved in sport, and am currently planning a presentation about Riding for the Disabled for the British Equestrian Trade Association."
