Young Sportswoman of the Year

Niamh Emerson.

There was an abundance of talent to choose from in the Young Sportswoman of the Year category, with heptathlete Niamh Emerson pipping, European Games gold medal-winning swimmer Abbie Wood and World Youth Championships runner Alicia Barrett to the title.

The 16-year-old Shirland athlete won high jump gold and claimed a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games and finished 13th in the heptathlon at the World Youth Championships, while breaking a 20-year-old high jump record, clearing 1.76m, at an Inter County Schools match.
