I got into coaching when I was asked by Darley Abbey Cricket Club if I would like to do my ECB Level 1 back in 2003. I ended up running the U15 team for four years. I also took on the captaincy of the 3rd XI which involved a lot of their junior cricketers.
I now coach for Darley Abbey CC and I am their coach co-coordinator. I coach juniors of all ages on a Saturday mornings for two hours and I also coach Derbyshire Disabled CC for two hours each Wednesday evening as well as on Sundays when we have matches which takes up most of the day.
I continue to coach because I can see the immense enjoyment on the faces of people that I have coached. I urge everyone to go and coach a disability group, you get so much out of the sessions and it makes all of your coaching worthwhile.
I want to continue on my coaching pathway and coach in schools so that I can help to nurture children into going down the path of sport.
My ambitions as a cricket coach are to get as many disabled people playing cricket, making sure that we do as a professional job as we can, and do all I can to make the sport as much fun as is possible, because if people don't enjoy playing the game we will not see them again.
I also eventually want to coach at a high level, for example any England disability team.
I feel that through my coaching I have found self-confidence and an ability to motivate people, but most of all I now have a large diverse group of friends. I hope I have made a difference to others, but they are the only ones who can say if I have.
