Meg Hudson - Buxton College

Student Meg Hudson has been a volunteer for five years, and since enrolling at Buxton College has joined forces with fellow students to set up and run a volunteer group called High Peak Sports Leaders.

The group use their days off from studying to run sports sessions within schools on a voluntary basis, and have recently been awarded a £2,500 grant to cover costs such as equipment and travel.

Meg has recorded more than 100 hours with the Derbyshire Sport Leadership Academy, but over the past five years she has also given up countless more hours of her time as a Scout.

Meg is currently the sports/outdoor co-ordinator with the 1st Chatsworth Scout group, which involves planning and running sessions for the younger scouts and her peers.

She is also part of an activities team which co-ordinates and runs sessions for the Peak District Scouts, organising activities such as archery, shooting, climbing, football, basketball, hockey and cycling.

In addition she helps to plan and run camps, and has recently been awarded a Young Leader Belt in recognition of her work with the Scouts.

Meg said: “I volunteer because find it so rewarding when I get to see people progress through sport. It’s a strange feeling but I love it! It is also like a break for me, like getting away from everything and relaxing whilst coaching at the same time.”
