Freya Clarke - Aldercar Community Language College

Sixteen-year-old Freya Clarke enjoys sport, and also enjoys encouraging others to try different sports through her volunteering.

She has been a volunteer at her local youth club in Langley Mill for three years, after previously being a member, and currently gives up one evening per week to help run activities there for seven to 11 year olds.

This includes football, hockey, volleyball and badminton.

Freya said: “The main aim is to get the children playing together and working together – a lot of them seem to want to just sit by themselves or in groups of two and play on their mobile phones.

“I enjoy being able to play games with them and seeing them enjoy themselves. They can do mixed sports and I encourage the boys to let the girls join in and show the girls that they are capable of playing with the boys.”

The Aldercar Community Language College pupil, who has gained the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership, also volunteers once a week with the Guides.

This includes helping girl guides to work towards badges relating to sport, and helping to organise sports days to promote team working.
