The Aldercar Community Language College pupil currently coaches netball after school for Y7 to Y10 pupils, is involved in teaching multiskills to local junior school pupils and has volunteered at various sports festivals, giving up many hours of her time.
She is also a Youth Sport Trust Young Ambassador for Amber Valley, and is head of the Aldercar Community Language College Sports Council and a member of the Amber Valley Sports Council and Derbyshire Sport Leadership Academy.
Charlotte said: “I used to hate sport, but the PE lessons with Mrs Hardy (Assistant Principal and School Sports Co-ordinator) were so different and I found it really interesting – every school needs a Mrs Hardy!”
Charlotte now coaches weekly netball sessions at the school, planning sessions around what pupils have said they want to achieve, and coaching skills such as passing, shooting, attack and defence.
She said: “Netball is my main sport and I asked if I could help coach. It is different having someone around the same age as you coach you and it’s easier for me to relate to them.
“I love seeing the kids’ faces when they place, it makes me so happy.”
Charlotte is also keen for others to get as much enjoyment out of sport as she does, and through her role as a Young Ambassador and as head of the Sports Council for Aldercar school she is trying to find out what sporting opportunities young people would like, and spread the message about the benefits of playing sport.
She said: “At school there are two reps for each form and they feed back what people would like to see, what sports they would like and what improvements.
“The aim is to get more people involved in sport and make sure people’s voices are heard.”
