Volunteer of the Year

Volunteer of the Year Matthew Dalley.

It was a delighted Matthew Dalley, from Alvaston in the City of Derby, who was named Volunteer of the Year, ahead of Baslow and Derbyshire Dales' Helen Watts and Swadlincote and South Derbyshire's Tracy Parker.

After being unable to compete for much of the season as a talented para-equestrian rider, he upped the amount of hours he volunteered for his club, Scropton RDA, as well as the North Midlands region and RDA UK.

Among other things, the 22-year-old organises activities, stewards, runs social media channels and appears on local radio to share his experiences and encourage others to follow in his footsteps, making light of his disabilities – he has a congenital brain condition, is autistic and is a profoundly deaf sign language user – with an ever-positive 'can do' attitude.
