Sega Fairweather - British Land National Ski Championships
I started my journey in Burlington, Vermont. Four flights and a nine-hour mini bus ride later I reached my destination, Meribel, France, to compete in the British Land National Ski Championships.
Snow conditions are very different in Europe compared to the harsh ice that I frequently train on in the US, so a chance to train with the British Team prior to the races was welcomed.
The speed events started the week's racing off with the International downhill and super G. I wasn’t too happy with my performance, only making a 4th and 5th position overall respectively, but a couple of days in, I settled into the races.
My confidence was boosted when I lifted the National Junior Downhill and Super G titles. Friday’s event was the International giant slalom. Determined to make my mark against the senior Europa and World cup skiers, I skied a solid first run to put me in 3rd position overall.
Unfortunately, I suffered a bad fall on the 2nd run, crashing through the safety netting. A damaged hip flexor put a sudden end to the rest of the Champs.
I am thrilled with my season as a whole this year, having spent a lot of time working on the technical aspects of my skiing and lowering my world rankings considerably.
My current British placings overall are as follows:
Slalom- 4th
Giant Slalom- 2nd
Super G- 3rd
Downhill- 3rd
I return to school shortly where I will begin preparing for next season.
