Sara Shortland - CVI (France)

I'm Sara and I'm 14. I have been vaulting for almost six years for the English Vaulting Sqaud and I enjoy vaulting very much.

Vaulting is gymnastics on horses when they are on a lunge line. I went to Saumur in France at Easter with my team to compete for Great Britain. Altogether there were 11 teams competing.

I have competed abroad before with a different team but we are a new team and we were quite nervous as it was our first competition together. We were there for 5 days in total including travelling time.

The competition was 3 days long. On the first day we did our compulsories which are set moves that every team has to do and you get marked on how good they are e.g Mount, basic seat, flare, scissors, stand and flank. After this we were in 6th place.

On the other two days we did our freestyle which is a routine that we make up ourselves, you can have up to 3 people on the horse at 1 time.

After the first day we dropped a place to 7th but then on the second day we managed to pull ourselves back up to 6th, we came 6th in total.

We stayed in a youth hostel near to the place where we were competing and got to meet other teams that were staying there too. It was awesome and I would love to go back there next year.
