Anya Colley - Jet-skiing
Hi, I’m Anya Colley and my sport is jet-skiing. I have been leisure Jet Ski-in since I was five years old and I started competitive ski-in in 2005. To find out loads more about me please browse around my website www.anyas.co.uk.
2007 was an amazing season for me and I became the UIM Ladies European Champion and I won the Junior World Championship and the Junior Drag World Championship in October over in Lake Havasu City in Arizona, USA. I am the first Girl in the world to ever win the title!!(Because I was under 16 I had to compete in the junior section due to USA laws, but in the UK and Europe you can compete in the adult classes at 14 years of age).
However 2008 is a little more difficult as I am currently sitting my GCSE exams and so that is unfortunately taking up all of my time so my fitness regime is really suffering a little so when I finish school in June I am going to have to work mega hard to get race fit! But I am very determined to get back to my 2007 season race fitness shape and as soon as I finish school I am off to France where my coach Laurent Boucher of B7 Sport lives – and believe me he will soon restore my fitness!!!
The British Race season starts on May 24th with the first race being held up at Stockton.
This year I will be competing in the top two ski classes Ski Limited and Ski GP so it will be a very tough year for me. As there are no other girls in my classes in the UK I have to race with the boys!!! So I really have to give it my famous Girl Power all. I won’t be competing in all the British rounds this year though due to two reasons one is the venues of the European rounds – it is really expensive to travel to Croatia with my ski’s then back to Britain for the following weekend round then to drive back to Portugal with my ski’s all within 3 weeks and I have been given the opportunity to stay over to France to spend some time with my coach in preparation for the European races and ultimately the World Finals.
Last year I thought this year would easier due to finishing school but the first two rounds of the British Championship are right in the middle of GCSE exams and I just don’t feel I can commit 100% to both so fingers crossed for this weekends racing – I will try my best.
The European Race season starts on July 3rd in Croatia, I am then off to Portugal, Belgium and the South of France to compete. In Europe they hold a ladies class so I will be competing in this throughout the year.
My overall aim is to go to the World Finals again in Arizona, USA in October and because I am now 16 I would be able to compete in the Pro Ladies class. This is the ultimate top class in the world where all the worlds’ top ladies compete.
