Grants Boost for Chesterfield Tennis Facilities
Chesterfield Borough Council has served up an ace – in the form of a £35,000 grant to help bring state of the art tennis facilities to the town.
Chesterfield Tennis Club is building new indoor courts and improving its existing facilities, at its Hawksley Avenue, Brockwell headquarters.
The £1m-plus project is one of only five across the country chosen by the Lawn Tennis Association to share in a £3 million Sport England payout to improve tennis facilities.
The LTA is giving Chesterfield Lawn Tennis Club a £850,000 grant. The remainder of the funding is coming from the club itself (£20,000) with Chesterfield Borough Council providing £35,000, Coalfields Regeneration Trust £135,000, DerbyshireCounty Council £30,000 and the Derbyshire Environment Trust £10,000.

The new facilities are due to open in the week commencing April 11 and an Open Day will be held on Sunday, May 8 to attract potential new members and the general public to the facility, as courts can now be booked on a pay-as-you-play basis.
A Council spokesman said: “We are delighted that Chesterfield has been chosen as one of only five schemes across the country to benefit from the LTA cash, and are pleased to be able to support it with a contribution of our own.
“It will result in top class facilities which will give local youngsters every chance to become tennis stars of the future.”
