Table Tennis a 4* Success
The Derby 4* attracted over 250 entries from all over the country including a team from Sweden. The Swedish team arrived in the early hours of Friday, practisd at the Rolls-Royce club in the afternoon and at the Long Eaton/Draycott club in the evening and then went home on Sunday with 5 of the trophies. Hampus Soderlund was particularly impressive winning at Under 11, Under 13 and Junior Grade 1 levels.
Derby league players put in some very creditable performances. Mark Naylor fulfilled his seeding at 6 in the Under 13 when he lost in the quarter finals to the no1 David McBeath (Hampshire). Unseeded in the Under 15 event he went out again to the no1 seed Gavin Evans in round 2.
Emma Vickers seeded 2 in her Under 15 event was beaten in the final by Sara Lundin (Sweden).
In the Junior Boys on Sunday Adam Frost seeded 8 lost in the quarter final to top seed Kevin Lindsay (Scotland).
In the Junior Girls Emily O'Sullivan had 2 very good wins. She beat the no6 seed Reena Ardeshana and then the second seed Sarra Wang (Essex). She lost the first closely at 12-10 but was impressive in winning the next 3. Sarah Perks (Nottingham) beat her in the semi-final but lost to Emma in the final.
