Derventio Strike Gold as County Records Fall
Derventio eXcel Swim Squad, sponsored by Radleigh Homes, took seven gold medals at the recent Lincoln Vulcans Open Meet held at Pond Forge in Sheffield . Leading the way was Mariesa Picknell who won three titles in the 16 years 50 freestyle, 100 breast stroke and 200 individual medley. Mariesa also lowered her own County record in the 100 breast stroke in the respected Inter Counties Championships.
Emma Smithurst then made her mark producing a County record in the 200 butterfly, whilst taking silver in the 13 years event. Emma also took gold in the 100 butterfly and bronze in the 200 individual medley. Both County records are subject to ratification.
James Shand had a successful meet taking 2 golds in the 11 years 100 and 200 back stroke and adding a bronze in the 200 butterfly. Sarah Gibson took five medals in the 11years category. She took a gold in the 100 backstroke, two silvers in the 100 and 200 butterfly and two bronze medals in the 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke.
Derventio took 37 medals with seven golds, 13 silvers and 17 bronze. This was from a team of 17 swimmers.

“We saw this meet as an extension to our training so any best times, medals or national qualifications were a bonus. We were working on our skill development firstly in preparation for swimming fast when it matters. We already have nine swims within the national qualification standard. “
