Top racing coach to attend NSSA National Youth Regatta
Top racing coach Dave Woodhead, from the Royal Yachting Association, is to attend this year's National Schools Sailing Association National Youth Regatta at Carsington Water in Derbyshire.
Dave will be at the event throughout the week from July 20 to 25, and will be on hand to give racing tips to competitors.
Dave (pictured) has sailed a variety of classes over the last 40 years and has been a multiple national championship winner.
He will be on the water at Carsington each day armed with a video camera and will de-brief the sailors each evening through showing the footage after sailing.
He may also give other presentations on a variety of racing topics during the week and will chat to any sailors who are seeking racing advice.
Dave said: "I'm really looking forward to helping as many of the talented sailors as possible during the week at the NSSA Regatta. It will be fascinating to see the sailing up close and that will give me the chance to feedback to the sailors the areas where they can gain places in their racing."
Dave has experience of sailing both single handed and two man spinnaker boats to a very high standard. In recent years, however, he has spent more time coaching than sailing himself, specialising in supporting the junior classes.
As Head Coach for RYA West Zone Cadet class, Dave has coached many competent Cadet sailors. He has also coached other classes too, especially Toppers and Optimists. In addition, he is now working as an RYA Regional Club Coach developing junior race training programmes in sailing clubs.
The week long National Schools Sailing Association National Youth Regatta, one of the most prestigious regattas on the youth sailing calendar, is held in a different part of the UK each year, and Derbyshire Youth Sailing has been chosen as the host association for 2008.
Severn Trent Water's Carsington Water reservoir is the venue and Carsington Sailing Club is the host club with the event management being organised by the volunteers from Derbyshire Youth Sailing with support of the NSSA.
Key partners supporting the event include Severn Trent Water, Derbyshire Sport and Carsington Sports and Leisure.
Visitors to Carsington Water will be welcome to watch the sailing activities that will be taking place from around 10:30 to 4:30 each day between July 21 and 25, from around the reservoir.
