2005 DYS Series Starts

Derbyshire Youth Sailing Series Starts

Toddbrook Sailing Club in the High Peak of Derbyshire provided a dramatic and beautiful setting for the first of the Derbyshire Youth Sailing series events last weekend. 26 young competitors aged between 6 and 17 enjoyed wonderful sailing conditions with modest breezes sustained throughout the day.

The event was won by Louis Saunders, last years series champion, sailing his Lightning dinghy. 17 year old Louis from Coombs Sailing Club took the win and the Senior school honours while 9 year old Benjamin Haynes from Trent Valley Sailing Club, sailing an Optimist dinghy and also last years Junior series champion, took the Juniors win.

Derbyshire Youth Sailing Chairman, Roger Britton said “This is a great start to our ten event 2005 series and ToddbrookSC really is a lovely place for our youth sailors to sail. There is still time for other youth sailors to join the series as the competition is based on the best six event results they achieve, so missing the first event, whilst a pity, it is not a disaster and youth sailors can still join in and will be made very welcome.”

The next opportunity for youth sailors to compete in the events and series is at Trent Valley Sailing Club this coming weekend on Saturday 23rd April. So they’ll have to be quick.

TVSC is located in the south of the county and is one of the first inland sailing clubs in Britain and the only river sailing club in Derbyshire. Youth sailors under 18 years of age need only to be able to complete a triangular course to qualify for entry into any of the events.
