Midway lead the way for Disability Football in South Derbyshire

Midway Football Club are in the process of setting up a disability section of their football club.

A six-week block of coaching sessions for disabled young people will begin on Thursday, April 24, from 5.30pm-6.30pm at Pingle school.

Already a Charter Standard club, Midway are keen to progress the opportunities they offer for their local community and as such have seen setting up a disability team as the next stage in the club's development.

Club Secretary Ian Davies said: "With sections in place for juniors, men and women, the next progression for us to offer football to all people in the community was for us to start this program.

"Hopefully we can offer football to those who have not previously been given a chance."

Key partners Derbyshire Football Association, Derby County Football in the Community Disability section, South Derbyshire School Sports Partnership and South Derbyshire District Council are supporting the project in a bid to give more young disabled people the opportunity to train and play football in the district.

They have been successful in being awarded a grant by the Burton Brewers Trust to help them get the scheme off the ground but anyone else willing to assist with funding would be welcome to get in touch.
