Derbyshire Disability Football Development Group

The Derbyshire Disability Football Development Group was formed in January 2006.

The key aim of the group is to increase the number of disabled people participating in football within the county. We hope to achieve this through a variety of methods: -

* The Promotion of Playing Opportunities

* Encouraging more coaches and volunteers to become involved in disability football.

* Encouraging existing clubs to embrace disability football to help gain or sustain their FA Charter Standard.

* Consulting with disabled people to determine how they wish to get involved or how to help others to get involved.

* Undertaking an annual audit of the football opportunities available to disabled people.

The group is steered by Peter Collins (Disability Football Development Officer) and works towards a 5 year development plan which encompasses the commitments outlined above.

It is also attempting to secure funding from a variety fo sources which will ensure that the necessary finances are available to achieve the goals of the development plan. The group has a written constitution and meets on a bi-monthly basis to discuss the progress that has been made and to plan to achieve further goals.

Membership of the group is wide ranging and currently includes disabled footballers and parents/carers along with representative from (among others): -

* Derby County Football Club

* Derbyshire FA

* Derby City Council

* Special Schools within the county

* Local Voluntary organisations

New Members all always welcome to the group and will help to steer the group the right direction. Your views can also be expressed by contacting Peter Collins
