Boccia
Boccia is an inclusive game of bowls, played on an indoor surface, similar size to a badminton court.
The 3-a-side game is played from a seated position.
The ball can be propelled on the court using a variety of methods, including rolling, throwing and pushing it down a ramp.
Boccia is a Paralympic sport but does not yet have its own National Governing Body. At International level, the sport is played by people with cerebral palsy and in England is organised by CP sport.
Nationally Boccia is being played at a pan-disability level.
Players of any ability can play the game. DSE organise the national competition.
Within the East Midlands there is a regional youth competition, held for the first time in October 2005 at Nottingham Trent University.
The competition is played on 2 levels:
- Level One - for the teams who have little experience of playing and have a basic understanding of the rules.
- Level Two - for teams that have regularly played the game and have a good level of understanding of the tactics and rules.
Within Derbyshire there are new developments up and coming in 2007. Follow these developments on this section of the website.
