Description of facilities
Buxton Community School launched as an Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) site in September 2005. The site received a grant from the IFI to support development in the following areas:
- Equipment - The IFI has accredited a range of fitness equipment from a variety of mainstream suppliers. This ensures that IFI Sites can install inclusive fitness equipment that blends into the fitness suite, whilst ensuring that the vast majority of disabled people can access a comprehensive cardio vascular and resistance based workout.
- Training - Two levels of training are delivered at every Site. Level one; targeting all front of house staff is a Disability Equity training course. Level two supports fitness instructors and will equip them to deliver a safe, appropriate and value for money exercise programme. This course also gives fitness instructors a qualification accredited at NVQ level 3.
- Marketing - Very few mainstream organisations communicate effectively with prospective and existing disabled customers. The IFI supports Sites to realise to some of the £40-£50 billion spending power that the disability market holds.
- Sports Development - The EFDS, or local equivalent, will work with all IFI Sites to ensure that there are additional sporting opportunities for disabled people within the wider local community.
In addition to this Buxton Community School has developed the access to the site to include the following:
- Clearly marked accessible car parking bays
- Accessible changing facilities/toilets
- General information available in alternative formats
- Hearing Induction loops
- Ramp access and handrails where required
