PACE Co-ordinator
Physically Active Children in Erewash
Erewash Borough Council has successfully employed
Eleanor Manning that will lead on the co-ordination of the PACE project. The PACE project is an after school club for primary school children and aims to help the youngsters and their families pursue a healthier lifestyle. The sessions are free to all children and especially help those children who do very little physical activity or those who are under or over weight. The children participate in fun games and Physical Activity followed by have-a-go healthy food preparation classes. Both the children and their families are also offered appointments with a School Nurse, who offer help and guidance on setting goals on food and activity. PACE also helps develop a life-long healthy lifestyle plan thanks to an ‘exit programme’ for the children from the school into their local leisure centre. Schools receive training, resources and support to run the PACE club and after the initial six-week programme they have the chance to continue the scheme for up to a year.
Erewash Borough Council has backed PACE along with partners Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire, Surestart, School Nurses and
Healthy
Schools.
