MACCA: Mission Active Children Creative Adventure
MACCA, Erewash Borough Council’s young people’s activity programme, was a resounding success this summer. MACCA, which stands for ‘MISSION: Active Children, Creative Adventure,’ caters for children aged 5 to 14 and takes place during the Derbyshire school holidays at the borough’s five leisure centres, Erewash Museum and at other locations throughout Erewash . This summer a fantastic 3,832 young people took part.
A wide selection of interesting and exciting activities are offered, including sports, arts, cookery and drama, to name a few - all aiming to be fun, creative and educational.
At Sandiacre Friesland Sports Centre, one of the highlights for all ages was Animal Antics which introduced wildlife in a fun and informative way. The animals brought along included rabbits, spiders, beetles and reptiles with a very large python which astounded both the children and staff.
On a rare warm summer day everyone enjoyed Wet and Wild which involved lots of outdoor fun with games and water and ended with a barbeque.
All sessions are fully supervised by qualified staff and the children are grouped according to age. Children from aged 8 upwards may stay all day bringing a packed lunch with them. Lunch can also be pre-booked at some locations.
The next programme, October MACCA, runs from Saturday 20 – Saturday 27 October. There’s a whole host of spooky activities offering Halloween fun for all. Look out for our all new one day activities MACCA Sailing Day and Own a Pony for the Day. Pick up a brochure at any leisure centre, council office or the museum.
