Matlock Primary Schools Swimming Gala
Matlock Primary Schools Swimming Gala 14th October 2005
The Matlock Primary Schools Gala took place on Friday 14th October at Matlock Lido. Eight Primary Schools from the Matlock area took part in the event resulting in 150 young people competing in a mixture of fun events alongside more serious swimming. The event was organised by both Derbyshire Dales District Council Sports Development and Matlock Swimming Club.
All participants had an excellent afternoon and the sportsmanship displayed by the schools created an excellent atmosphere. Each participant received a certificate for attending the event and trophies were awarded to the winning schools and a fair play trophy to the school that showed the greatest sportsmanship.
Councillor Mrs Janet Goodison was there are on the day to present the trophies to the winning schools.
A special mention needs to go to the staff at the Matlock Lido who through their professionalism made sure that the event ran without incident and on time.

Wayne Allsopp Sports Development Officer for Derbyshire Dales said
"It is very difficult to take the competitive aspect from sport but we have tried to make this event open to all hence the fun events at the beginning alongside the more serious swimming to finish with. Working with Matlock Swimming Club in organising the event it is hoped that more young people will become interested in competitive swimming and join Matlock Swimming Club."
