Run Route
Hathersage Hilly Triathlon Run is a challenging route, that will appeal to both the first time and experienced triathlete. It is approximately 6.12km in distance. Take a look at the link below for where the route takes you.
“The run takes up away from the pool onto the A6187 heading SW out of the village then, crossing the road, you take a footpath that takes you in a more westerly direction up the hill through the odd gate on rough ground until a stile takes you out of the trees and onto flatter ground after ¾ mile (but it will feel like more!). Keep right here along the edge of the field (the track coming in on the left you will use on your return), joining the graveled road towards the gate onto the road at around 1mile. Crossing the road takes you onto proper fell terrain, so join the path slightly to the right and carry on across the access land, keeping right where it gets steeper until you reach the main track, and turn left running slightly west of north and up over Owler Tor, the high point being around 350m elevation and 1.5 miles into the run. Care is needed running through the gritstone boulders that lie along this path. Continue on in the same direction heading for the north west corner of the sheepfold, on reaching this at 2 miles take another sharp left turn to find the footpath dropping back down onto the road and straight across and down towards Mitchell field, heading towards the obvious farm buildings where the track is indistinct. Following the footpath signs go left onto the road then turn right (footpath sign) to head up a short slope and across a higher field to come out at Scraperlow Hall. The exact route around the hall will be confirmed on race day, but the footpath goes through the yard and out the front gate following the track for a hundred meteres before bearing right along the edge of the field (don’t follow the tracks as it bears left towards the gate on the road) until you reach the corner and the point at which you came out on your way up. Turn right back down the hill and retrace your steps back to the pool area.
Don’t worry if this sounds complicated, the route will be well signed on race day, but if you want to do it beforehand, now you know!”.
