This is a new triathlon event, which takes advantage of the beautiful countryside the Peak District has to offer. Hathersage lies in the HopeValley, in the centre of the Peak District, but only half and hour from the centre of Sheffield and within in an hour of towns like Manchester, Stockport, Nottingham, and Derby. Derbyshire Sport and the British Triathlon Association have worked with the District Councils of High Peak and the Derbyshire Dales, as well as High Peak Tri Club to stage this event. Together we have put together a fun event that will put a smile on your face whether you are ’tri-ing’ for the first time, or a seasoned competitor looking for a new and interesting event to participate in.

The swim takes place in Hathersage open air, heated swimming pool (wetsuits will not be needed!). The pool is 30m long and so will give you plenty of room from your seeded start time to swim 420m before setting off on the bike leg. Enjoy the poolside fresh air, but you will be getting plenty more as the 19.4km bike leg sets off down the HopeValley towards the quiet villages of Grindleford and Calver, before heading up the stiff climb of Froggatt hill. Once out on the moors at the top, enjoy stunning scenery before relaxing (mind the bends) back down towards Hathersage and the run transition. The 6km run takes you back up the hill you have just descended on your bike then off up wooded and moorland tracks, steeply, before running along the ridge to the west of Higgar Tor with beautiful views across to Mam Tor, Stanage Edge and Kinder Scout, before shooting back to down for the finish and hopefully loud applause from the crowd at the finish.

Hathersage Hilly Triathlon will take place on 24th July 2005. Event information will be updated as soon as available, so please keep checking the site for updates.
