About Derbyshire Dales District Council
Derbyshire Dales District Council provide a number of services for Leisure in the District. A number of these take place at our facilities (see the facilities links on the left), however a selection of these are outlined below:

Sports Development
- The Sports Development Project was launched in July 1994 as a joint initiative with the English Sports Council. Since that launch the Project has provided a wide range of sustainable opportunities in sport and recreation throughout the district. We work regularly with local Schools, Clubs and National Governing Bodies, to name but a few, to develop pathways and participation opportunities for all.
Coaching is available for children and adults in a variety of sports and venues throughout the district in both term-time and the school holidays, (see the section link on the left). Community Equipment Loan Scheme
A range of equipment is available for hire for parties, carnivals and fund raising events. Specialist sports and leisure equipment at a low cost. Equipment includes: a bouncy castle, short tennis equipment, short matt bowls, badge making machine, tug of war rope and a parachute for children’s play.For a full list of equipment available or more information, please contact Sherwood Hall Leisure Centre on 01629 56111.

Swimming Lessons
The Council provides a full range of swimming lessons for children and adults, from beginners to improvers at the pools in Ashbourne, Matlock, Wirksworth and Bakewell. For more information contact the Pool direct (details in the Contacts or Facilities section).
