21 places on Gold Elite Athlete Personal Fitness Training Scheme up for Grabs

19 potential world class young sportsmen and women aged 14-19 who live in the Borough of Chesterfield have been able to access free use of fitness training facilities thanks to the support of:

Brampton Manor

Cannons

Queens Park Sports Centre and

Brookfield Community School

These youngsters from a wide range of sports - netball, fencing, canoeing, swimming, tennis, athletics and rugby union – have been helped to achieve their optimal fitness levels.

This is what some of them said about the programme:

The programme has become an integral part of my training. It is extremely valuable. The benefits I have seen have been massive.

I think it is excellent and allows athletes to expand their training and improve using the facilities they may not have had.

Provides a superb opportunity for young athletes to develop sporting potential.

A great way to boost a young athletes performance.

Several athletes on the programme have been selected for national squads.

The scheme will resume again in January and new applicants are being sought. Application forms are available on the Brookfield Community Schools website www.brookfield.derbyshire.sch.uk in the Sports College section under Recent initiatives and these need to be in by Wednesday 10 January 2007.

Denise Howard Director of Sport and project manager says, “This is a great opportunity for the sports college to reach out to help others in the community who aspire to become future world class or Olympic athletes. We are very grateful for the interest and support of our facility providers and very proud of the athletes who have been on the scheme so far”.
