TOP HONOURS FOR SPORTING HEROES
Over 300 people packed into Kissingate Leisure Centre at Shirebrook to honour 16 top sportspeople and teams at the annual Bolsover and District Sports Awards.
The winners picked up their awards as recognition to their commitment to sport and achievements that individuals, clubs and teams have made over the last 12 months.
One hundred and thirty people and clubs were nominated to receive one of the 16 awards up for grabs which were aimed solely at the voluntary sector across Bolsover District. The winners will now feed into county, regional and national sports award events.
Bolsover District Council Leader, Councillor Eion Watts said, The evening was a huge success and it was a fantastic night. These awards are our way of saying thank you to all those involved in sport and to congratulate people on their sporting successes over the past year.
The wealth and range of sporting talent we have across the district is amazing, ranging from British martial arts champions to local school teams and the calibre of entries for the awards was very high. My congratulations go to not only the winners, but everyone who was nominated and takes part in sport.
Also during the evening the World Football Freestyle Champion, John Farnsworth put on a 20 minute display showing off his unique talents, Georgia Brice undertook a gymnastics display using the beam and floor and Julie Broadhead did a presentation on her coaching work with the England and Wales Boccia squad.
