Schools hold court to crown basketball champs!
A total of 26 primary schools from across Amber Valley were involved in the recent annual year 5 & 6 Basketball competitions, which were organised by Amber Valley Borough Council’s Sports Development team. Individuals training on the Entry to Employment (E2E) Programme and volunteers on the Sports Development Leadership Programme helped to referee and score the games.
Qualifying competitions took place at Frederick Gents School, Ripley Leisure Centre, Belper Leisure Centre and Heanor Leisure Centre with 8 schools making it through the Borough finals.
The small schools final took place on Wednesday 19th March at Heanor Leisure Centre. The four schools which reached the finals were Morley, Breadsall CE, South Wingfield and Ambergate. The winners were Morley School, with South Wingfield finishing runners up.
The large schools final took place on Thursday 20th March at Heanor Leisure Centre. The four schools which reached the final were Christ the King RC, Leys, Coppice and Kilburn. The winners were Kilburn.
Sarah Bingham Club, Coach & Volunteer Development Officer commented: “It was great to see so many children having fun playing Basketball over the six competitions that took place through the borough.”
It is hoped that some of the children will now continue to improve their Basketball skills and link to local clubs.
