Local Sports stars honoured in Amber Valley Sports Awards
The second annual Amber Valley Sports Awards were held at Horlsey Lodge on Friday 28th September, with over 110 guests in attendance. The awards were delivered on behalf of the Amber Valley Community Sports Network (Amber Valley Active) and Amber Valley Borough Council with BBC Radio Derby’s Ross Fletcher taking on the role of presenter for the evening, announcing the winners of the Awards.
In total, 80 nominations had been received for the 13 categories of the Awards – highlighting the vast amount of sporting talent with Amber Valley. The Mayor of the Borough of Amber Valley, Councillor Peter Arnold welcomed guests to the event and congratulated all nominees on their achievements. Each category had been sponsored by local companies/organisations, who were in attendance to present their respective awards.
All Award winners were put through to the Derbyshire Sports Awards to compete against the winners form the other districts within the County, with Greg Townley, Melissa Reid, Cheryl Naylor and Mike Allen being short listed to attended the Derbyshire Sports Awards at Pride Park on 26th October.
The evening also featured an excellent karate display by Ryan Webster (Junior Sportsman of the Year runner-up) and Ryan Minion of the Derby Karate Academy.
