Amber Valley Sports Awards 2007

Do you know someone who has made an outstanding contribution to sport in Amber Valley? Well now is the time to let them be recognised. Nominations for the Amber Valley Sports Awards have been coming in since early July, and with now just a couple of weeks until the deadline, 17th August, further nominations are being sought. The Sports Awards provide a way of recognising and celebrating the successes of local athletes and people involved in sport in the borough. Nominations must relate to achievements between September 2006 and August 2007, except ‘Service to Sport’ and ‘Contribution to School Sport’ Awards. To be eligible for the awards, athletes must: live in Amber Valley or belong to a sports club or school in the borough; be involved in a sport that is officially recognised by Sport England; and compete at an amateur rather than a professional level. There are 14 Award categories including Sportsperson of the Year, 'Team of the Year', 'Disabled Sportsperson of the Year' and 'Community Coach of the Year' with an awards evening being held in September for winners and runners-up. Similar events are also taking place across the other districts within the County, with all the winners being put forward to the Derbyshire Sports Awards, where the winner and runner up for each category will be invited to attend a presentation evening in late October. Last years awards process saw Commonwealth swimming star Ross Davenport, from Belper, being crowned Amber Valley and Derbyshire Sportsperson of the Year before going on to also become the East Midlands Sports Personality of the Year after a fantastic year in the pool. To submit a nomination you can pick up a form by contacting Amber Valley Borough Council on 01773 841443 or log on to www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/sports-awards.
