Sam is a 22-year-old cyclist from Chellaston, who rode for Team Wiggins in races across Europe during 2016. He competed for Great Britain in the under-23 category of the Nations Cup 4 - ZLM-Roompot Tour and is a member of the Derbyshire Insititute of Sport programme.
Sam says: "I finished my season in October and after that I've had a few weeks where I can recover. After I've finished my break, I will have few weeks where I ease myself back into things, and I will then begin build my fitness back up, before starting my winter training ready for next year.
"The majority of my winter training will generally consist of getting plenty of riding miles done, to build a good base fitness that I can then build on once I get into the new year.
"I will also look to improve on key areas that I believe I can work on going into the start of the season, as well as incorporating some gym work over the winter months at Derbyshire Institute of Sport, as I did for this current season.
"My season's goal for next year will be to again build on my performances from this year, so I'm looking to race and place well in a number of races in Britain and on the continent.
"However, I'm unsure on what my race programme will be like yet, so aren't able to identify any specific races that I'd like to target. Once I get into the new year I will have a better idea of what races I'm going to be doing, and at that point I will decide what my main objectives and targets will be.
"My sporting ambitions are to ride for a UCI world tour team. The reason for this is because if you are able to become part of one of these teams, it gives you the opportunity to ride all of the biggest road races in the cycling calendar, which is something I've always aspired to do since first getting involved in the sport."
