The 19-year-old, from Chellaston and a member of the Team Wiggins squad, is on the Derbyshire Institute of Sport programme and secured a silver medal in the under-23 section of the National Road Race Championships racing for Team Raleigh-GAC.
Sam says: "I've just started back with my training after having my end of season break, so for the next few weeks is all about easing myself back into things and getting some fitness back before starting my winter training.
Generally, that'll involve getting plenty of miles under my belt and to build a good base fitness that I can work on going into the start of the season.
"I'm also looking to start incorporating some gym work over the winter months and will be working with the Derbyshire Institute of Sport to set up a programme, so I can combine that with my training on my bike.
My season's goal for next year will be to build on my performances from this year, so I'm looking to race and place well in a number of races on the continent, as that is something I believe I haven't done enough of this year.
"I'm also aiming to be selected as part of the GB team for the under-23 nations cup races, as well as international events and major championships.
"My sporting ambitions are to ride for a UCI world tour team, and this would enable me to have the opportunity to ride all of the biggest road races in the cycling calendar."
