Sam says: "I'm currently training four evenings a week training at my club and with my coach, spending around 10 hours a week just doing fencing specific training.
"Other kinds of training that I do include my strength and conditioning programme that I will now be able to commit more time and effort to thanks to the facilities now available to me from the ICON programme.
"My season goals for this year is mainly focused on now improving my senior ranking. Having been in the Under-20 squad for the past two years, it is now the next step to improve my ranking by attending more senior domestic competitions.
"My current ranking (October 2015) is 87th, but I am now focused on getting in to the top 20 over the next 12 months. I also intend to enter some senior, non-selection based international events to gain a world senior ranking.
"I have long term aspirations of going to both World Championships and the Olympic Games. I thoroughly enjoy all the opportunities I have already had to represent my country already. I hope I am able to continue to do this at the highest senior level."
