Run to Beijing 2008
Over 18,500 children attempted to ‘Run to Beijing’ during the first ever National School Sport Week as part of the first ever county-wide virtual competition.
The pupils, from Key Stages 1 and 2, took part in the challenge by completing the 10-metre shuttle course as many times as possible. Their combined efforts amounted to almost 4,000km, the equivalent of running from Derbyshire to Kazakhstan!
Although the collective effort was unable to reach Beijing it was still an incredible effort from all involved. The Competition Manager team would like to thank everyone that supported the ‘Run to Beijing’ challenge.
Partnership Development Managers and Competition Managers have data on the performance on the schools within their areas and will be communicating these results to the schools involved.
The success of this virtual competition will help to drive the development of future competitions, which are currently being developed by the Competition Manager team. If you would like to provide any feedback and assist this development, please contact Will Evans, Senior Competition Manager.
