MV - Millennium Volunteers
Millennium Volunteers is a Government-funded initiative for young people. As an MV you volunteer your time to help others, doing something you enjoy.
Who can be a Millennium Volunteer?
Anyone between 16 and 24 can be a Millennium Volunteer (MV). The scheme encourages young people to get involved in local issues. At the same time gaining experience, confidence and skills. Young people could be involved in projects such as sports coaching, environmental issues, youth leadership, music and dance.

How you can benefit
MVs also gain some of the skills that employers value, such as working as part of a team, learning to solve problems and developing initiative.
NASD - National Association of Sports Development
The National Association for Sports Development was formed with effect from 1 April 2000.
The aim of the Association is to provide support, advocacy and professional development for those involved in the development of sport and the following objectives have been set:
- To raise the profile of sports development and the people who work in sports development.
- The identification and dissemination of good practice in sports development at all levels (national, regional, local and international), encouraging recognised professional standards.
- The provision of a nationally recognised professional development programme that offers quality assured training opportunities as part of a qualification framework for those involved in sports development.
- To represent the views of those involved in sports development to relevant external agencies.
- The provision of a sports development information service.
- To work closely with regional and local sports development networks and to encourage, and help in, their creation where appropriate and when invited.
NGB - National Governing Body
NOF - New Opportunities Fund
The New Opportunities Fund is a Lottery Distributor created in 1998 to award grants to education, health and environment projects throughout the UK. Many of the grant programmes focus particularly on those in society who are most disadvantaged.
NPFA - National Playing Fields Association
Protecting and improving playing fields is the core work of The National Playing Fields Association (NPFA).Play, sport and informal recreation environments are the focus of the NPFA's action. Its Council works to safeguard facilities for communities across the UK.The NPFA is the UK's only national organisation which has specific responsibility for acquiring, protecting and improving our fast disappearing playing fields and playgrounds.
OBI - Outdoor Basketball Initiative
National lottery-funded scheme which ceased in 2002, coordinated by the Basketball Association to provide outdoor basketball facilities across England to raise profile and levels of participation in Basketball.
ODPM - Office of the Deputy Prime Minister
ODPM was created as a central department in its own right in May 2002. It is responsible for policy on housing, planning, devolution, regional and local government and the fire service. It also takes responsibility for the Social Exclusion Unit, the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit and the Government Offices for the Regions.

PFI - Private Finance Initiative
The private finance initiative is the main way of financing new public sector buildings. Introduced in 1992 it has since been expanded by the government, to complete new capital-intensive projects without increasing public spending.
RDA - Regional Development Agency
