Paul Sunderland

Paul Sunderland.

Paul is a 19-year-old canoeist from Mackworth who competes in the men's kayak of the canoe slalom category and has been selected onto the Under-23 Great Britain Canoe Slalom Team. He competed in the World Championships in that age group, making it through to the semi-finals, and is also part of the English Performance Squad.

Paul says: "My training plan ranges between seven sessions and 12/13 sessions per week, dependent on if it is a heavy week or an easy week.

"A heavy week usually contains something similar to four gym sessions, five white water sessions and three cardio-based sessions.

"My aims for this year are to make the Under-23 GB Canoe Slalom Team, reach the semi-Finals of a World or European Championship competition, to place in the top 10 of the National Rankings at the end of the season and to continue to improve and enjoy my sport.

"My long term aspirations are to make the podium of a World/European championship competition, to make the senior GB team, to represent Great Britain at the Olympics and to win an Olympic Medal."
