Changes to the Coaching Derbyshire Bursary Fund commencing March 1, 2013

28 February 2013

The Coaching Derbyshire Bursary Fund is co-ordinated by Derbyshire Sport. It provides financial support to coaches by providing a cash bursary to support coaches attending training courses.

Since 2010, the bursary fund has supported the development of more than 700 coaches with grants totalling 118,045.

It has become an appropriate time to review the Coaching Derbyshire Bursary Fund due to the amount that is available to support coaches and a need for more focussed criteria where coaches will be assessed against their contribution to the aims of Derbyshire Sport identified in the Plan for Sport and Active Recreation in Derbyshire 2012 - 2015.

There will now be three rounds per year which will end the last day of February, June and October. The amount available to support coaches will be 20,000 per annum, split evenly between the three rounds.

The Derbyshire Institute of Sport sports; Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cycling, Golf, Hockey, Netball, Sailing, Swimming, Squash and Table Tennis will receive a maximum of 11,000 during the year commencing March 2013.

Other changes

The Coaching Derbyshire bursary will support more coaches to achieve level 2 and 3 qualifications, with a more limited amount at level 1.

Level 1 coaches must have completed all minimum standards prior to being eligible for a level 2 bursary i.e. First Aid, Equity in Your Coaching, Safeguarding and have a current CRB.

There will be support for level 3 and 4 coaches to attend appropriate CPD, such as conferences and this will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Coaches must complete the application themselves using the web based coach profile tool on www.coachingderbyshire.co.uk (opens in a new window)

Applications will continue to be endorsed by a club official, NGB officer/county association or Sport Development Officer.
