More than 80 sports clubs and community groups in Derbyshire will receive funding to help them promote healthy and active lifestyles in the first round of Derbyshire County Council’s new £180,000 Sports Action Grant scheme.
A total of 83 applications totalling £67,530 have now been approved, with grants ranging from £300 to £1,000 awarded for projects including building refurbishment, improvements to pitches and training areas, new equipment, coaching courses and website development.
A full list of successful clubs is below.
Under the scheme bids are invited for grants of up to £1,000 for groups to provide activities that encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activities, promote healthy and active lifestyles or encourage volunteering within sport and improve sporting performance.
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health, Cllr Carol Hart, said: "Our new Sports Action Grants have generated a lot of interest and we're delighted to approve grants totalling £67,530 to support 83 local groups and clubs in the first round.
"It's fantastic to see the range of additional activities which will be available to more people across the county thanks to this funding.
"We're committed to promoting sport and recreation to encourage healthy lifestyles and these grants are designed to help groups offer activities to improve hundreds of lives. From the applications we've had in so far, it looks like they're going to do just that."
The first Sports Action Grant round closed in December and applications are now invited for the second round which closes on May 14.
The fund, backed by Derbyshire Olympic badminton star Donna Kellogg MBE, is being distributed over 18 months through three timetabled rounds.
Applications are considered by a panel organised by Derbyshire Sport and recommendations are passed to the county council which makes the final decision.
