Woodlands School badminton team win place in the National Finals

A team from Woodlands School in Derby are celebrating after winning a place in the National Finals of the Badminton England Center Parcs National Schools Championships.

The year 7 to 9 girls’ team competed in the regional final of the competition at Nottingham University, beating schools from Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, after first winning the Derbyshire Schools Championship.

The team players Emily Bitton, Hannah Bailey, Katie Wright and Sophie Robinson were presented with their winners gold medals by England Badminton star Donna Kellogg, and will now play in the National Finals on Sunday, April 25, against eight other finalists at Centre Parcs, Sherwood Forest.

The year 7 to 9 boys’ team from Woodlands School also played in the regional final narrowly losing one of their games to take second place overall. The team consisted of Joshua Hong, Joshua Thompson, Daniel Hong and Ross Hickie.
