The team from Glebe Junior School, representing Bolsover, were crowned champions having faced Mapperley Primary School, representing Erewash, in the final, which finished 12 – 4.
Both teams had come through tough semi-finals, with Glebe Junior School (pictured) playing High Peak’s Harper Hill Primary School and Mapperley Primary School facing Amber Valley’s Duffield Meadows Primary School to secure their places in the final.
The semi-finals also had their own share of tension with Duffield and Mapperley running into overtime and then a basket shoot out.
The event was supported by Derby Trailblazers Basketball Club and saw more than 100 pupils take part, with teams made up of both girls and boys from years 4 to 6.
Competition Manager Phil Basterfield said: “This was the second annual event and the basketball this year was superb. It was a pleasure to see all the pupils, teachers and parents thoroughly engaged and supporting each other and opposing schools and pupils whilst celebrating in what was a really successful competition.
“The event was supported by the Derby Trailblazers Basketball Club so hopefully some of our promising youngsters will get involved with the club and become great players who hopefully can fly the flag for Derbyshire in the coming years."
Earlier in the day primary school teams from each district in Derbyshire had competed in a league format, which saw Glebe Junior School, Mapperley Primary School, Duffield Meadows Primary School and Harper Hill Primary School win their places in the semi-finals.
All of the teams taking part had won their place in the county final having been crowned champions in their local school sports partnerships. Also competing was St. John Fisher School from Derby West, Osmaston Primary School from the Derbyshire Dales, Pilsley Primary School from North East Derbyshire, Shelton Junior School from Derby East, Christ the King Catholic Primary School from Chesterfield and Pennine Way Junior School in South Derbyshire.
