New Hi 5 Netball Clubs are launched

Two free netball clubs for boys and girls aged between eight and 11 have been launched in Derbyshire.

Swadlincote Hi 5 Netball Club will meet at Granville Community School every Monday from February 22 to March 29 from 5pm until 6pm.

Meanwhile Bolsover Hi 5 Netball Club will meet at Bolsover School every Tuesday from February 23 to March 30 from 4pm until 5pm.

The clubs are free for all children aged between eight and 11, and sessions are run by qualified level 2 coaches.

High 5 Netball allows players to rotate positions during a match, with five players in a team on court at any one time. Other members of the squad also take on the roles of scorers, timekeepers and centre pass markers.

Derbyshire Netball Development Officer Hayley Bladon said: “The new clubs are a great way for children to get involved in netball at a young age and to learn new skills as well as making new friends.

“We are also looking for parents and volunteers to help out in any way they can to make the clubs sustainable and hopefully see them continue beyond the initial six weeks, so everyone is welcome.”

High 5 Netball is a game which may be played by single sex or mixed squads with a maximum of three boys in the squad. The squad should consist of a minimum of seven and a maximum of nine players with five on court at any one time. The squad is made up with the following playing positions GS, GA, C, GD, GK as well as scorers/time keeper and centre pass marker who have taken on these roles when off court.

Matches are made up of four six-minute quarters, with two minutes at each interval during which squad members' positions are rotated. All players must play in at least two quarters and in at least two different positions in each match. Substitutions may be made at any time in the event of illness or injury.
