Number of Championship Best Performances set at Derbyshire Schools' Track and Field Championships

Records were broken in a number of events at this year’s Derbyshire Schools' Track and Field Championships, as young athletes from across the county competed at Moorways Sports Centre Stadium in Derby.

Derby East’s JJ Heath set a new Championship Best Performance in U17 boys’ high jump with a height of 2.01m, beating his own previous record of 1.96m which he set at the same event last year.

And in the 15 girls’ high jump Emily Johns from the Derbyshire Dales set a new Championship Best Performance of 1.62m.

Kelse Hutchinson from Derby West smashed the previous Championship Best Performance of 33.69m in the U17 girls’ discus, throwing 36.48m, and in the U17 girls’ pole vault Paige Collings from Chesterfield also put in a Championship Best Performance of 3.15m.

Meanwhile in the track events Ben Connor from Amber Valley set a new Championship Best Performance in the U19 boys’ 3000m final, winning the event in a time of 8m 41.30s.

Competing at the Derbyshire Schools' Track and Field Championships were school pupils representing Derbyshire Dales, Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire, Bolsover, South Derbyshire, Erewash, Amber Valley, High Peak, Derby East and Derby West, who competed in three age groups: Under 15 (School years 8 and 9); Under 17 (years 10 and 11); Under 19 (Yrs 12 and 13).
