The sporting achievements of athletes, coaches and volunteers across Derbyshire are to be recognised at the 2010 Derbyshire Sports Awards.
Entries for the awards are now being accepted, and local people are being invited to nominate sports men and women who have excelled in their sport, as well as hard working coaches and volunteers who are involved in sport at any level.
Each local authority in Derbyshire will recognise local sporting heroes later this year, and winners will then go forward to be considered for the Derbyshire Sports Awards, sponsored by the University of Derby, where the winner and runner up for each category will be invited to attend a prestigious ceremony at The Roundhouse in Derby in November.
Entry forms and full details can be found at www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/sportsawards (opens in a new window) The closing date for nominations is August 20 (except Bolsover which is August 6).
Categories include Sportsperson of the Year, Community Coach of the Year, Service to Sport Award and Club of the Year.
Councillor Clive Moesby, Chair of Derbyshire Sport, said: “Derbyshire has a huge wealth of sporting talent and the Derbyshire Sports Awards are a great way to recognise the achievements of individuals and local clubs.
“Our sports system could also not operate without all the dedicated coaches and volunteers who spend their time encouraging people of all abilities to become more active, and the awards are also an opportunity to recognise those who always go the extra mile.”
District Sports Awards will be held for Amber Valley, Bolsover, Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Derby, High Peak, Erewash and South Derbyshire. To download an entry form go to www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/sportsawards (opens in a new window)
