School Sports Co-ordinator and Head of Highfields Sports Leadership Academy Jayne Allen was joined by Community Coach and former Academy member Lindsey Pearson, and two Higher Sports Leaders Level 3 students, Jack Wood and Rebecca Hinchley.
The group had a fabulous day and spent three hours in the garden, where the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Duke of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were in attendance.
Highfields Sports Leadership Academy received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recogognition of its sports partnership work with the community.
In the last academic year alone members have clocked up more than 3,500 voluntary hours, helping to lead sports activities in schools and clubs.
Jayne said: “I am extremely proud of all our students at Highfields. The 400+ in the Sports Leadership Academy have put in a tremendous amount of leadership hours, giving quality experiences to so many pupils, students and adults in and around Derbyshire and the Dales.”
Academy member Rebecca Hinchley is now planning a year-long around the world coaching trip, and has experiences set up in China, Australia, New Zealand, America and Canada. The Youth Sport Trust will follow her journey on its website through blog.
Highfields has again been given the honour of being a Sports Leaders UK Centre of Excellence for 2010/11.
