The new programme will target all year 5 primary school children and year 7 girls in secondary schools across the county, spanning eight School Sports Partnerships and giving several thousand school children the chance to try golf for free.
Senior Schools Golf Development Coordinator Craig Pollard said: “The golf programme will bring many young people to a sport they may not otherwise have ever had the chance to try.
“It will be exciting to see so many young people engage with the golf programme and I hope we see many of the youngsters go on to join local clubs and have fun improving their skills!”
The golf programme will be delivered by trained golf coaches and will help to strengthen links between golf clubs and local schools.
The coaching programme has been made possible by the formation of the Derbyshire Golf Partnership, which has secured funding from Golf England and Sport England.
Derbyshire Golf Development Officer Nigel Furniss said: “Our schools golf programme is key to the success of the Derbyshire Golf Partnership. We aim to provide as many golfing opportunities as possible to young people within Derbyshire and provide them with a pathway into the network of Derbyshire Golf activities.”
