The facility will be managed by the Gosforth Fields Sports Association, an umbrella association made up of Dronfield Town FC, AFC Dronfield and Dronfield Rugby Club, and will provide playing and coaching facilities for the clubs’ 600 members.
The site has a new changing pavilion and a full-size floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch. Improvements have also been made to the drainage of pitches, perimeter fencing and car parking.
John Morris, Chairman at Gosforth Fields, said: “This new facility gives us a solid platform to support the 600 current players and strong foundations to develop football even further in the local community.”
The site was officially opened by the FA’s Director of Football Development Sir Trevor Brooking, and John Owen, President of the Rugby Football Union.
Major funders of the project include Derbyshire County Council, the Football Foundation, Sport England, the Rugby Football Union and Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN).
