Derbyshire school pupil Mark Porter has become the English Schools Under 16 golf champion.
14-year-old Mark, a pupil at Brookfield Community School in Chesterfield competed at the 19th English Schools U16 National Championship at Delamere Forest Golf Club in Cheshire.
He beat a field of the best schoolboys and girls in England over 36 holes scoring 2 under par on the first 18 and 1 under par on the second 18.
He will now represent England Schools Under 18s in their international match against Wales at St Pierre Chepstow on Monday, August 23.
Mark qualified to play in the English Schools event having competed in the Derbyshire Schools tournament earlier in the year, being under 16 years of age and having a handicap under 6.
Mark has been playing golf since the age of 4 and currently has a playing handicap of 2. He is a member of Chesterfield Golf Club and is a regular member of the Derbyshire U16 and U18 Junior teams.
Last year Mark was invited by the English Golf Union to be part of a Midlands region coaching squad. His goal is to make it onto the England U16 squad for the 2011 season.
Mark will be competing again in the North of England U16 Championship at Pannal Golf Club in Harrogate on August 25 to 27.
