The race will take place on Sunday, September 5, and is being organised by Jog Derbyshire which runs a network of community-based jogging groups for beginners around the county.
The 5k will celebrate the jogging network's continued success, and it is hoped that members of Jog Derbyshire groups from around the county will take part, as well as attracting others who are new to running.
The event is being supported by Tom Glick, Derby County president and chief executive, who will be taking part along with his wife Maria. They are both looking forward to the event and has given Maria the kick-start she wanted to take up exercise.
Maria said: “Up until recently I did very little exercise- I was kept busy with my family, but now that I have hit 40 I really want to get into shape by exercising and eating healthily.’
‘The Jog Derbyshire 5k is a great opportunity for us to do something together- Tom is a great motivator and has planned an eight week programme of walking and jogging on the park for me to follow. I’m on track and gradually building up my stamina and it’s getting easier each week. My aim is to complete the course, not to be last and to jog more than half!’
‘Following the event I will continue jogging and maintain my level of fitness. My aim is to gradually increase my stamina so that I can comfortably run 5k and next year I would like to run a 5k with my three sisters- we’re quite competitive, so it’ll be great fun.’
Tom, who is a keen cyclist and runner is looking forward to the event and will be running with his wife on the day.
Tom said: “I’m very happy to be supporting the Jog Derbyshire 5k. The event provides an outlet for people to continue their fitness programmes, whether they are an existing Jog Derbyshire member or new to exercise.”
“It’s going to be fun running together with Maria and the festival atmosphere on the day will really help to spur us on.”
As well as supporting the joggers, there will be lots of activities for all the family to enjoy. Derby County Football in the Community will be running skills based coaching sessions and there will also be a climbing wall, skate park and free sports coaching and taster sessions from local clubs for the kids. A 2.5 mile history walk taking in Shipley Hall and the stunning scenery of the park will also be taking place.

Entry is £5 per person. The 5k will start at 10.30am on Sunday, September 5 and will follow an off-road route along the tracks and trails of Shipley Country Park.
