Anthony Gell School cricket team to compete at national final of Lady Taverners U13 Indoor School Competition

A girl’s cricket team from Anthony Gell School has qualified to compete in the national final of The Lady Taverners U13 Indoor Schools Competition at Lords Cricket Ground.

The team will travel down to London to compete on Wednesday, May 5 after winning through county and regional finals.

At the regional finals, held at Edgbaston, Anthony Gell was one of nine schools taking part.

They were drawn in a pool which included teams from Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Lincolnshire, and Anthony Gell won all their games comfortably before facing Leicestershire school Mount Grace High School in the final. This was a closer match and the girls won off a wide ball in the last over.

Most of the girls from the Anthony Gell team play cricket at Wirksworth & Middleton Cricket Club, where the women’s’ and girls’ section has been running for ten years.
